Senior Data Engineer

PerBlue is looking for a talented Senior Data Engineer to join our team. We’re a quickly growing independent studio whose free-to-play midcore mobile games have been played by millions people around the world, including our recently launched Disney Heroes: Battle Mode game. We’re looking for a smart developer with a passion for managing the terabytes of critical data we rely on every day.



The core responsibility of this role is to own, maintain, optimize and develop our data pipeline. You will interact frequently with the rest of the Data/BI team as well as developers that build other systems to ensure a smooth, stable, secure, and efficient operation of all the data generated by our games.

Additionally, depending on your skills and interest in other related areas (ie, data modeling, data analysis, machine learning, etc) there are always opportunities to expand your role and take ownership of your future growth at PerBlue.


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics or related field
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in data-related role
  • Minimum 2 years experience with SQL (ideally MySQL or Postgres flavors)
  • Minimum 2 years experience writing Python
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Self motivated and resourceful with the ability to work autonomously
  • Close attention to detail, process driven, and results-focused
  • Proactive and able to take ownership of tasks and projects
  • Strong desire to learn new things


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience building / maintaining data infrastructure (data lakes, ingestion pipelines, batch processing, etc)
  • Experience with a version control system like Git or SVN
  • Experience working on Linux / Unix remote servers
  • Experience with Postgres and/or Snowflake/Redshift cloud database querying
  • Experience data modeling


Bonus Skills and Experience

  • Experience with mobile and/or online games industry a big plus
  • Experience with AWS a plus (EC2, S3, IAM, AWS CLI, Boto3 for Python, etc)
  • Experience with Tableau or other popular data exploration, visualization and dashboarding software a plus
  • Experience with monitoring/telemetry and alerting services a plus (ie, DataDog, PagerDuty)
  • Experience doing basic statistical analyses (AB testing, confidence intervals, etc) a plus
  • Machine learning, regressions, and other prediction/classification methods a plus


Key Duties Will Include

  • Develop a strong understanding of our data pipeline
  • Maintain and improve documentation of our data systems
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise with any data system
  • Build out new data functionality with a keen eye toward scalability, maintainability, and backwards compatibility
  • Ensure security of our data and systems
  • Ensure adherence to best practices for data management, in compliance with frameworks like COPPA and GDPR

This is a full time position based in Madison, WI. Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
